Deciding how to code assemblies
Assembly codes let you organize assemblies numerically and
alphabetically. You can organize assemblies into work-related groups by
setting up group assemblies.
Within the coding scheme, there are three main concerns.
- How many characters should
assembly codes have? In general, short codes are easier to type. The maximum
length is 20 characters.
- Should assembly codes be
strictly numeric or include other characters? Your decision determines
the order of assemblies on the spreadsheet, lists, and reports. Assembly
codes with no more than one decimal point are considered numeric.
- Should assembly codes include
a decimal point? If so, you must enter the correct number of decimal places
when creating the assemblies.
