Creating a new Excel price update file

Before creating a Microsoft Excel price update file, you should format all the cells in the Excel spreadsheet as text, so that numbers you enter are treated as text.

To assign a text format to all cells in the spreadsheet

  1. In Excel, right-click the upper left corner of the spreadsheet to select all the cells and open the shortcut menu.
  2. On the shortcut menu, click Format Cells to open the Format Cells window.

    Tip: You can also open the window from the Format menu by selecting Cells.

  3. On the Number tab, under Category, select Text, and then click [OK].

All cells and columns in your spreadsheet are now formatted as text. Phases will be saved exactly as you enter them, retaining any trailing zeros after the decimal.
