Testing a question formula
-
Select a model for takeoff that uses the question formula you want to test, as follows:
In the Model Takeoff window, use one of the following methods to open a model in the Interview window.
- Select a model and click [Interview].
- Double-click on a model in the list.
The source option indicates whether the Model Takeoff window lists models in the database or in the estimate.
- To takeoff a new model, choose from the list of database models. Note that each time you select a database model, you are actually making a copy of it as an estimate model.
- To view a model in progress or already generated to the spreadsheet, choose from the list of estimate models.
Tip: If the database containing the selected model is not open, the model appears in read-only mode.
-
In the Interview window, enter values for each of the questions that are part of the question formula. Instead of random values, enter values that produce a result you can verify. Estimating uses your responses to calculate the question formula.
-
Examine the result of the question formula to make sure your question formula is working as you intend.
-
When you finish testing the formula, click [Cancel] to exit the interview without saving your changes.
-
Did your question formula calculate properly?
-
Yes. Congratulations, you are done!
-
No. Return to the database model and change the formula as needed, and then test it again.
