Setting up a bill of materials (BOM)

  1. Open the Bill of Materials window in one of the following ways:

    • On the ribbon, from the Codes group on the Data tab, click Bill of Materials.
    • In classic view, click Database menu > Bill of Materials.
  2. Expand the Database Items list as needed and then select one or more items to assign to the same material class.

    • You can sort the item list in a different order. How?
    • You can search the list to find a specific item. How?

    Do you have linked item prices in your standard database? To assign linked items to the same material class as the selected items, select the Assign linked items check box.

  3. Drag the selected items and then drop them on the desired material class (Image showing a Folder button) in the Material Classes list. Do you need a material class that has not been set up yet? Click [Add] and enter the information for the new material class.

    Sage Estimating (SQL) creates a bill of materials (BOM) description folder (Image showing a Folder button) for the items (An image showing an Item icon). It uses the description of the first selected item for the BOM description.

    To display help for a list, click An image showing the Help icon available on the ribbon on the window and then click the list.

  4. Customize the bill of materials as needed. How?
  5. When you finish setting up your bill of materials, click [Close].
