Select/Edit Subcategories window
You use the Edit Subcategories window to define valid subcategory codes for an estimate.
You also use this window to select existing subcategories for the estimate.
Before you start
On the spreadsheet, insert the column for the subcategory you want to work with (Equipment, Labor, Material, Subcontractor, Other), if it is not already displayed. How?
To add or edit subcategories:

Open the Edit Subcategories window:
- On the spreadsheet, for the item to which you are adding subcategories, right-click in the Equipment Subcategory, Labor Subcategory, Material Subcategory, Other Subcategory, or Sub Subcategory column.

.Tip: If you simply wanted to select an existing subcategory for use in the estimate, you would select it on the grid, and then click [ ].
- In the window that appears, click [ ].

To add a new subcategory:
- Click [ ]. to create a new row in the grid.
- In the Subcategory column for the new row, type up to 20 alphanumeric characters for subcategory code.
- Double-click in the Unit column, and then select a unit of measure for this subcategory from the dropdown list.
To edit an existing subcategory, simply type a new subcategory code or select a different unit.
To delete an existing subcategory, click the row indicator to select subcategory you want to delete, and then click [
].Tip: If you previously exported a list of subcategories, you can import the list using the [ ] button, rather than entering them manually.

When you finish adding and editing subcategories, click [Edit Subcategories window.

After editing subcategory values
You can export the list of values to Microsoft Excel, where you can use that program to edit the list easily. You can then import the values back into the estimate or another estimate.
