Turning security on or off for the SQL instance
Estimating security is instance-wide. This means that the users, roles, and permissions you set up for Sage Estimating apply to all the estimates in the SQL Server instance.
Tip: The name of the SQL Server instance is displayed in the Catalog pane (left-hand pane) in the Estimating Management Console, along with the estimate database.
The Estimating Management Console automatically turns on estimate security for the estimate database. Estimate security prevents unauthorized access to your estimates and other Sage Estimating features by requiring you to define a list of authorized users and assigning task or feature permissions to them.
If you turn off estimate security, the Estimating Management Console preserves your security setup. Any roles and permissions you define before you turn security off are restored if you turn it back on. For example, if you add APerez to the Users list, assign them to the Estimators role, and then turn security off, APerez is restored to the Estimators role if you turn on security again.
Caution! Turning off estimate security allows all Sage Estimating users to access all Sage Estimating estimates and features.
To turn security off for the instance:
- On the ribbon in the Estimating Management Console, click [Security].
- In the Catalog pane, right-click the estimate database.
- Select Turn security off.
Note: This option appears if security is turned on.
You can turn estimate security on again at any time.
To turn security on again:
- On the ribbon in the Estimating Management Console, click [Security].
- In the Catalog pane, right-click the estimate database.
- Select Turn security on.
Note: This option appears if security is turned off.
