Adding a numeric question to a model
Before you begin
If you have not already opened the Model window and selected the model you want to work with:

On the Data menu, click Models.
The Database Model window opens.
- Click the list button () and then select the model you want to work with.
- Click [OK].
When you click a line in an existing model, Estimating refreshes the current variables from the items and assemblies in the database. If it encounters any changes made to the database since you last loaded the model, it asks you if you would like to run Check Model.
To add a numeric question to a model:
- Select a blank line in your model where you want to insert the question.
- Click to enter a blank numeric question in the model.
- Place your cursor in the text area of the line, type the actual question and press [Enter].

(optional) Enter the default value to prefill for the question during takeoff.
Tip: To enter a default answer for the question, you can:
Enter a default answer in the response field.
Use a question or a question formula to calculate the default value during takeoff. For more information, see:
- (optional) Click to open the Properties window where you can do any of the following:
- Name the question.
- Enter the minimum and maximum values allowed for the response.
- Enter the number of decimals allowed for the response.
- Enter a helpful note about the question that appears during takeoff.
- Set up additional numeric questions in the same manner. When you finish, click [OK].

- The Insert Line – Numeric Question Line command is available when you right-click the line header.
