Linking item prices in the standard database

You can create price links between two or more items in the standard database. The advantage of linking prices is that changing the price of one item automatically updates the price of all other items linked to that item.

Example: If you take off items with linked labor prices, when you change the labor price of one item in the spreadsheet, Sage Estimating (SQL) can automatically update all linked items with the new labor price.

To create a price link:

  1. Open the Edit Items window.

    • On the ribbon, from the Elements group on the Data tab, click Items.
    • In classic view, click Database > Items.
  2. In the phases pane, select the phase that includes the item you want to link to other item prices.

Estimating displays existing items associated with the selected phase in the items grid.

Tip: If you want to show only certain phases from a long list of phases, you can use the Search box above the phases pane to filter the phases using a keyword.

  3. On the items grid, select the item that you want to link.

For a long list of items, you can use the Search box above the grid to locate the item quickly.

  4. If the Item Detail pane is not visible, click the Show item details button button below the grid to display it.

  5. Select the Links tab.

If any item category is linked to other item prices, a [Show Links] button is available for the category.

  6. On the Links tab:

    1. Click [Link] beside the desired category. You can link unit prices for labor, material, and equipment categories.

    2. In the Add Price Link window, select the items you want to link.

    3. To create a new group of linked items, double-click one or more items in the list.

Tip: A blue check mark indicates the item is selected for linking.

    4. To link to a group of already-linked items, double-click an item with a yellow link graphic next to it. Estimating automatically selects all other items to which it is linked.

    5. Click [OK] to link the selected items and return to the Item window.

Tips:

  • To view price links for an item in the standard database, click [Show Links] on the Links tab of the Item window.
  • To delete a price link for an item, click [Remove Link] on the Links tab of the Item window. If the unit price of the item is linked to more than one item, those other items remain linked.
  • Linking prices in the standard database does not affect items in existing estimates.
