Taking off an item

Before you start

(optional) Use the Default Takeoff Values pane to set a location, alternate item, and work breakdown structure (WBS) for the items you are going to take off.

  • On the ribbon, from the Takeoff group on the Takeoff tab, click Default Values.
  • In classic view, click View menu > Item Takeoff Settings.

To perform item takeoff:

  1. Open the Item Takeoff window:

    • On the ribbon, from the Takeoff group on the Takeoff tab, click Item.
    • In classic view, click TakeoffItem Takeoff or click The Item Takeoff button on the toolbar in Classic view on the toolbar.
  2. Select an item and take it off. For more information, see Choosing items for takeoff.

    If you have formulas assigned to your takeoff items, Sage Estimating (SQL) displays the variables (dimensions and specs) for them in the variable pane.

  3. Enter or calculate the item takeoff quantities. For more information, see Specifying takeoff quantities.

    To make adjustments to items in the takeoff grid, you can:

    • Change an item description.

      1. To edit the item description, double-click the item Description cell.

        To replace the item description, click the item Description cell once.

      2. Change the description.

    • Change item details.

      1. Select the item you want to change.

      2. Open the Detail window

        • On the Home tab, from the Estimate Views group, click Details.
        • In classic view, click View menu > Detail Window.

        Item information is organized on tabs.

        Tip: Drag the bottom border of the window downward to display additional item information, such as Location, Waste percentage, and Sequence number.

      3. Click the tab containing the details you want to change.

      4. Make changes as needed.

        For more information, click Tooltip help icon on the toolbar and then click a field or button.

      5. Click [OK].

      6. To display information in the Detail window for another item, simply click the item.

    • Delete an item from the grid.

      1. In the takeoff grid, click the right mouse button on the item's line number.
      2. Select Delete Row from the shortcut menu.
    • Save the items as an assembly.

    • Generate items to the spreadsheet by clicking [OK].

After performing takeoff

To see the items in takeoff order on the spreadsheet while you work, click the Takeoff Order tab.
