Calculation window

This window is used to edit the method of calculation for the selected line or field. Estimating enters your finished formula when you click [OK].

To open: Place your cursor in the line header or field where you want to enter a calculation. Enter = and click image\viewicon.gif.

Lists are available for questions, question formulas, or functions (including constants, operators, and math symbols). In addition to the functions available for regular formulas in Estimating, there are other functions developed specifically for working with question formulas in Model Estimating. To see a list of these functions, click here.

For more information, click the Help icon available on the ribbon on the title bar of the window, and then click a field or button.

Tips:  

  • Click [Clear] to delete the entire calculation.
  • In the calculation, questions are green, question formulas are pink, and text is black.
  • If you create an invalid formula, a red triangle appears. Run your cursor over it to view the details of the invalid formula.
  • If you use incorrect syntax, Estimating displays the formula text in red. Place your cursor over the red text to view the error in your syntax.
  • You can enter a calculation for a selected line directly in the formula bar on the Model window.

Items in this window

Lists of Calculation Elements

Choose the type of element that you want to add to the calculation. The corresponding list appears in the field to the right of this option.

Calculation Element list

Displays a list of components based on the type of element you select. To switch to another list, click the desired option to the left of this list.

Calculation

Contains the method of calculation. Double-click components from the Calculation Element lists to enter your calculation into this text box.

Tips:  

  • Anytime you edit a calculation, be sure to test that it works in the expected manner.

[Clear]

Deletes the entire calculation.

[Save as Q Formula]

Saves the displayed calculation as a question formula, which you can use throughout the model.
