You use the Edit Database Subcategories window to define valid subcategory values for an open standard database.

You use the Select Database Subcategories window to select valid subcategory values from an open standard database.

Before you start

If the column for the subcategory you want to work with (Equipment, Labor, Material, Other, or Subcontractor) is not already displayed on the spreadsheet, insert the column.

  1. On the spreadsheet, right-click a column header, and then click Insert from the shortcut menu.
  2. On the Insert Columns window that appears, either double-click a field to add a single column immediately to the spreadsheet, or select several fields (one at a time), and then click [OK] to add multiple fields to the spreadsheet.

The new columns are inserted to the left of the column you selected initially.

After editing database subcategory values

You can export the list of values to Microsoft Excel, where you can use that program to edit the list easily. You can then import the values back into the database or into an estimate.
