Assigning a cost category to an item

Five categories are listed on each tab in the Edit Items window. You need to assign at least one category to each item.

Tip: You can save time if you set up default categories to assign to new items automatically. (Select default categories on the Sage Estimating Application > General tab in the Estimating Options window.)

To assign a cost category to an item:

  1. Open the Edit Items window in one of the following ways:

On the ribbon, from the Elements group on the Data tab, click  Items.

  2. In the phases pane, select the phase or group phase for which you want to edit items.

Estimating displays the items associated with the selected phase in the items grid.

Tip: If you want to show only certain phases from a long list of phases, you can use the Search box above the phases pane to filter the phases using a keyword.

  3. Select the item to which you are assigning a category.
  4. If the Item Detail pane is not already visible, click the Show or hide button button below the items grid.
  5. In the Item Details pane, on the Pricing, Rounding, Links, Subcategory, Job Cost, and WBS tabs, in turn:
    1. Select the checkbox beside each cost category that you want to assign to the item.

Note: If the item has a crew, you need to assign labor or equipment, or both categories, to the crew resources.

    2. Fill out the fields that apply to each category.
  6. When you finish, click [Close] to save your changes and close the Edit Items window.
