About Replace with Increment
If you select the Increment by checkbox and type values in the Replace with and Increment by boxes, you can quickly create similar items in sequence. If you select the Increment by checkbox, make sure you type only numeric data in the Replace with and Increment by boxes.
Wall Stud Increment Example
Assume you need to make a series of 2x4 wall studs varying in length from 8 to 24 feet with 2 feet being the difference between each stud.
- Create a template wall stud. Type unique characters that represent the number you want to increment. For example, type 2x4x@@@ #1 Stud where "@@@" represents the number to increment.
- Use Repeat to create 9 items.

Select the cells.
Be sure that the top cell in the selection is the current cell by pressing Ctrl when you click the first cell in the sequence and while you extend your selection.
- Type @@@ in the Find box.
- Type 8 in the Replace with box.
- Click Selection in the Look in list.
- Select the Increment by checkbox.
- Type 2 in the Increment by box.
- Click [].
