Database Variable window

You use this window to enter the name, unit of measure, default value, minimum, maximum, and help notes for a variable.

You can insert variables in a formula to obtain the values needed to calculate takeoff quantities. Sage Estimating (SQL) saves your entries when you click [OK].

To open the Datbase Variable window:

On the ribbon, from the Calculations group on the Data tab, click Variables.

For more information, click the Help icon available on the ribbon on the title bar of the window, and then click a field or button.

Tips:

  • Since you will eventually have hundreds of variables, it is important to use a consistent naming scheme that helps you find the desired variable in a list.
  • To make the name more legible, capitalize only the first letter of each word in the variable name.
  • You can set up a variable that requires a YES or NO answer by ending its name with a question mark (?). Using a YES/NO variable in an IF function allows you to obtain a result based on a certain condition. Example
  • Remember, Sage Estimating (SQL) asks just once for each variable during takeoff, even if it occurs in several formulas. Example
  • Click List button to see a list of variables.
  • Click [Rename] to change the name of a variable.
