Waste factor

Enter the percentage (up to 2 digits) of the takeoff quantity added to the order quantity of an item for waste or compaction. Your entry serves as a default for takeoff and can be modified at that time.

The waste factor works with the Apply waste option (Rounding tab) to determine how the order quantity is calculated. When you apply waste, only the order quantity increases; the takeoff quantity remains the same. For example if you apply waste, the order quantity is calculated by increasing the takeoff unit by a specified percentage.

Example:

Takeoff quantity: 100 cubic yards
Waste factor: 3%
Waste: 3 cubic yards (100 x .03)
Order quantity: 103 cubic yards (100 + 3)

Tips:

To apply waste to a cost category, select the Apply waste % option.
To use takeoff quantities as order quantities, clear the Apply waste % option.
To apply waste to both the takeoff and order quantities, leave this field blank and include a waste calculation in the item formula.
The spreadsheet includes a column that shows the waste factors for items.
