How to Use Copy Sum

Use the Copy Sum feature to quickly and efficiently total takeoff quantities in two or more cells in the Takeoff Quantity column of the spreadsheet. You can then paste the sum of these takeoff quantities anywhere in the spreadsheet, such as at the item level or phase or group phase overline levels.

Tip: To display overline totals, remember to select the appropriate checkbox in the Options window.

To use Copy Sum:

  1. Select two or more takeoff quantity cells that you want to total (you can select nonadjacent or adjacent cells).

As you select takeoff quantity cells, a running total appears in the Sum= cell in the bottom right corner of the status bar.

  2. Select Copy Sum using one of the following methods:

    • Click the Copy Sum icon on the toolbar.
    • Right-click in one of the highlighted cells or in the Sum= cell on the status bar, and then select Copy Sum from the shortcut menu.
    • Press Ctrl+Shift+A.

The selected cells are now highlighted in yellow, and the total is cleared from the Sum= cell on the status bar and placed on the clipboard.

  3. Select the cell into which you want to place the total and paste the amount. You can paste totals anywhere in the spreadsheet, for example, in item cells or phase or group phase overline cells depending on the type of total you want to see.

Note: Auto Sum is a similar feature that is available for other columns on the spreadsheet.
