Copying versus duplicating an estimate

Sage Estimating provides 2 ways to create a new estimate from an existing one: copy or duplicate. Each method serves a different purpose, depending on what you want to accomplish.

Copying an estimate

Copying creates an exact replica of your estimate, including all quantities, amounts, attachments, and notes.

Use Copy when:

  • You want a backup before making changes.
  • You need a quick clone for reference or small edits.
  • You want to preserve all pricing and details.

Duplicating an estimate

Duplicating gives you more control over what information is copied from the source estimate. You can choose to:

  • Clear quantities and amounts for a clean start.
  • Restrict access to administrators for confidentiality.

Use Duplicate when:

  • You want a new estimate with the same structure but without old data.

  • You’re creating templates for future projects.

  • You want to protect sensitive information.
