Dragging and dropping measurements from Dimension to Estimating

You can drag a measurement from Dimension to a Takeoff Quantity cell on an existing estimate line, creating a drillable link to the measurement on the drawing, enabling faster updates when measurements change.

This workflow is another way to create a linked quantity. After the measurement is linked, you can use the same linked-quantity commands on the Takeoff Quantity cell: Drill Down to eTakeoff Dimension, Show eTakeoff Measurement Variable List, and Update from eTakeoff Dimension.

If the eTakeoff measurement includes breakdown categories whose names match WBS codes in the estimate, Sage Estimating can apply the matching WBS values to the item when you drop the takeoff quantity.

To drag and drop a measurement from a drawing in Dimension:

1. Open the Sage Estimating estimate and the Dimension project side‑by‑side.
2. On the drawing in Dimension, select the measurement you want to drag and drop.

3. If you want to drag and drop the default quantity from the drawing, drag the measurement to the Takeoff Quantity cell in Estimating.

   You can also drag and drop quantities from the Measurement List, as described next.

   Note: If you want to select a different quantity (Quantity 2, 3, or 4), you must use the Measurement List.

   To drag and drop from the Measurement List:

   1. From the View menu on the ribbon, select the Measurement List icon. The Measurement List window appears.

   2. In the Measurement List window, select Copy/Drag Measurement Links from the dropdown list on the toolbar.

   3. Drag a quantity from the Measurement List to the takeoff quantity cell of the target item in the estimate.

If matching breakdown categories and WBS codes exist, Sage Estimating automatically populates the item's WBS fields.
