[Spread Variance]

[Spread Variance] closes the Totals window, selects the Total Amount column in the spreadsheet, and opens the Adjust Column window with the type set to Spread.

Click [OK] to distribute the variance between the new and old job total among all items in the estimate. A proportional amount of the variance goes to the Total Amount column for each item.

Tip: This is the recommended way of distributing the variance back to the estimate. It ensures that the adjustment distributed across the Total Amount column is enough to cover the additional amounts generated by addons.

For example, suppose you adjust the job total by 100.00, and the estimate includes a 10% addon based on the labor category. Sage Estimating (SQL) spreads just enough of the variance (about 90.00) to allow for the 10% added for the addon. This guarantees that the estimate total increases by the correct amount.

Spreading the entire adjustment plus the addon percentage to the spreadsheet would cause the estimate total to increase by more than the variance shown.

To remove a variance that remains after you spread the adjustment, click [Clear Variance].
In the spreadsheet, a red triangle appears on cells with a pending adjustment.
Adjustments are temporary (or pending) until finalized.
