Reviewing or changing assemblies after takeoff

You can review and modify assemblies that you've already taken off for an estimate. For example, you may want to delete an item or replace a pass in an assembly.

To review assemblies:

  1. Open the Review Assemblies pane in one of the following ways:

    • On the ribbon, in the Takeoff group on the Takeoff tab, click Assembly.
    • In classic view, select TakeoffReview Assemblies.
  2. From the assembly lis in the Assembly window, right-click on an assembly and select Review Assemblies. (In classic view, you can also select an assembly to view and select Review Assemblies.)

Note: You must take off an assembly before you can review it.

  3. In the Review Assemblies window, click an assembly to see the date and time the assembly was generated or last changed, the assembly location, the WBS code value, and the first 70 characters of the assembly note.
  4. Double-click the assembly to view it in the Assembly Takeoff window.
  5. (optional) Right-click the assembly list and select List Items to review the assembly items. If necessary, you can:
    • Search or sort the item list. How?
    • Expand or collapse the item list. How?
    • Add an item to the assembly. How?
    • Delete an item from the grid. How?
    • Substitute an item in the grid. How?
    • Change an item description. How?
    • Change item details. How?
  6. (optional) Right-click the assembly list and select List Passes to review each pass. Select a pass in the list to see its variables. Or right-click on a pass and select View Pass Audit to view all passes for and their related variables, as well as the date and time the assembly was generated.

    If necessary, you can:

    • Undo the last pass. How?
    • Replace a pass. How?
    • Enter notes about a pass. How?

  7. (optional) Adjust productivity for the assembly. How?
  8. When you finish reviewing and changing the assembly, click [OK].

Tips:

  • Review Assemblies is also available from the Assembly Takeoff window when you right-click on an assembly.
  • The same standard database that generated the assembly must be open to modify an assembly after takeoff.
  • Only passes generated from the Assembly Takeoff window are available for review. Quantities do not reflect changes made to assembly items in the spreadsheet.
  • All variables are zero if a pass was generated by entering the quantity manually in the takeoff grid or by calculating the quantity using the item formula. A pass note describes how these passes were generated.
  • The location or WBS assigned to new items depends on items already in that assembly. If all items have the same location or WBS, new items also get that value. Otherwise, new items get the default location or WBS (when the Item Takeoff Settings button is pressed).
  • To copy an assembly, right-click the assembly in the list and choose Copy Assembly.
  • To delete an assembly, right-click the assembly in the list and choose Delete Assembly.
