Substituting spreadsheet items with other items

  1. Select one or more items in the spreadsheet.

    • To select consecutive items, click the first item, then press and hold Shift as you click on the last item.
    • To select scattered items, press and hold Ctrl as you click on each item
  2. Right-click, and then select Substitute Item on the shortcut menu.

This command is available only when a standard database is open.

  3. In the list of items, double-click the replacement item.

  4. The substitute item assumes the takeoff quantity, sequence number, location, WBS code values (takeoff and detail types only), assembly sequence, rate tables, and adjustments from the items it is replacing.

  5. The substitute item retains its own prices, unit descriptions, unit conversions, and crew, if any. When crew information is missing, you decide what happens to that item.

Tips:

  • If an item is included in a Bid Grid, you can skip the item or delete the Bid Grid (this restores the original category amounts for other items in the Bid Grid).
  • If there are duplicates for any of the selected items, you can replace only the selected items or replace all of the duplicate items as well.
