Setting up a bill of materials (BOM)
When to set up a bill of materials
Setting up a new material class
-
Open the Material Class window in one of the following ways:
- On the ribbon, from Codes group on the Data tab, click Bill of Materials.
- In classic view, select Database menu > Bill of Materials.
- From the spreadsheet, right-click a material class, and then click Edit Material Class from the shortcut menu.
-
Use the Source option to specify whether to save the new material class to the estimate or to the standard database.
-
In the Material Classes pane, click [Add].
-
Complete the fields in the window. You can use [Copy] and [Prefill] for this purpose. At a minimum, you need to enter a name (up to 20 characters) for the material class in the Material class field. This name appears as a product category on the bill of materials.
For more information, click on the title bar of the window and then click a field or button.
- When you finish setting up the material class, click [OK] to save it.
- Set up additional material classes in the same manner.
- When you finish, click [Close].
Tips:
- After you set up your material classes in the standard database, you can print the Material Classes report from the Database Reports group on the Reports tab (or Reports menu in classic view) to check them.
- You can use Edit Material Class from the shortcut menu to copy a material class from an estimate to a standard database or from a standard database to an estimate. How?
- If you want the Material Class window to remain in add mode after you save each new record, use the automatic add mode option.
