Duplicate Items
Use duplicate items to copy one or more items. If you duplicate more than one item, you can create unique item codes by incrementing one or more of the digits in the item. You can choose whether to overwrite existing items and how to handle the JC Phase column.
To duplicate items:
- Select the row header for an item or range of items.
- From the Actions group of the Home tab, click Duplicate.
- Select a phase in the Target phase list.
- Select or clear the Modify item number check box. Select the check box to let you enter a beginning item number and increment the item numbers (if you are duplicating more than one item). Clear the check box to duplicate the items with their existing item numbers.
- Type a beginning item number in the Start item box.
- If you duplicate multiple items, use the mouse to move the red box to the number group you want to increment.
- If you duplicate multiple items, type a value in the Increment Value box. Enter up to four digits.
- Select the Replace Duplicates check box to overwrite existing items. Clear it to choose not to overwrite existing items. If you clear the check box, Database Editor skips duplication of items with identical item numbers.
- Under Job Cost Phase, select a method to handle the Job Cost Phase column.
Note: If you select items from different phases, you might select items that have the same item number. If this happens and you chose not to modify item numbers, Database Editor uses the setting from the Replace duplicates check box to decide how to handle items with the same number. If you clear the check box, Database Editor duplicates the first item and no subsequent items overwrite it. If you select the check box, subsequent items with the same number overwrite the preceding item.
