Assigning global View or Edit permissions
You can use options on the Estimates tab in the Security window to manage access to estimates efficiently by granting a level of access to all users or to existing users.
Turning on global permissions overrides existing estimate permissions, but it does not delete them. To restore individual user and estimate permissions, you clear the global options.
If you do not select any of these options, you will need to assign permissions to specific non-administrator users for each estimate. To find out how to assign permissions to an individual estimate, see Assigning permissions to an estimate.
Note: Administrators always have permission to view and edit estimates.
Important! Make sure that users exit Sage Estimating before you change their permissions.
To assign global View or Edit permissions for estimates:
- In the Security window, select the Estimates tab.
-
In the Estimates pane, select options as follows:
-
Allow all users to view all estimates. Select this checkbox to allow all users to view all estimates, without your having to assign View permission to each estimate.
Note: You cannot turn off this option for individual estimates.
-
The Default allow existing users to view new estimates option is available only if you do not select Allow all users to view all estimates. Select this checkbox to allow only existing users to view new estimates by default. You will need to give viewing rights manually to new users that need it.
Note: With this option, you can remove permissions for individual users on specific estimates.
-
Allow all users to edit all estimates. Select this option to allow all users to edit all estimates, without your having to assign Edit permission to each estimate. This option automatically confers permission to view all estimates.
Note: You cannot turn off this option for individual estimates.
-
Default allow existing users to view new estimates. This option is available if you do not select Allow all users to edit all estimates. Select it to allow only existing users to edit new estimates by default. You will need to give editing rights manually to new users, later, if they need it.
Note: With this option, you can remove permissions for individual users on specific estimates.
-
To make sure that all permissions are assigned to specific users on an estimate-by-estimate basis, do not select any of the global options on the Estimates tab.
