When to set up a bill of materials
Use this command to open the Bill of Materials window where you can set up a bill of materials (BOM) for ordering purposes.
The bill of materials, which is the basis for three reports, should include every material item in the standard database.
To open the window:
- On the ribbon, from the group on the tab, click Bill of Materials.
- In classic view, click Database menu > Bill of Materials.
Note: If both an estimate and a standard database are open, the estimate BOM information is displayed initially. You can use the options to switch between the estimate and the database BOM. (If only an estimate or a standard database is open, you cannot switch to the other option.)
The process involves creating material classes in the standard database and assigning each material item to a material class.
Tip: To customize the bill of materials for an estimate, Edit Bill of Materials is available on the shortcut menu when you are working with a bill of materials in the spreadsheet.
