Moving or copying items to another spreadsheet level

Providing that the items are not combined, you can move or copy items to another spreadsheet level in the estimate when the current spreadsheet sequence includes any one of these levels:

  • Work breakdown structure (WBS)—Detail and Takeoff types
  • Location
  • Subcontractor
  • Material Class
  • JC Phase
  • Unassigned
  • Vendor
  • Alternate
  • Price Code

Note: The Move option is not available for:

  • The Phase/Item, Takeoff, and Assembly tabs.
  • Sort sequences that are created solely from Item-type WBS codes, Group Phase, Phase, Assembly, Combined Assembly, or Model selections. You must make at least one additional selection.

To move or copy items to another spreadsheet level:

  1. On the spreadsheet, click the item's row header to select it.

To select additional items, hold down the Ctrl key while you click on their row headers.

Tip: To move or copy all the items within a overline:

    • Collapse the overline (double-click its row header).
    • Select the overline (click its row header).

  2. Right-click, and then select Move/Copy from the shortcut menu.

  3. Complete the fields in the Move or Copy Items window to specify where you want to place the selected items and whether you want to move or copy them. The fields that appear in the window correspond to the current spreadsheet sequence.

Use the [Image of Ellipsis button] button to select the location where you want to move or copy your selection.

Tip: You can create new values for some sort levels by entering them in the value fields for the level. However, you cannot change Item-type WBS codes, Group Phase, Phase, Assembly, Combined Assembly, or Model.

  4. Click [OK] to move or copy the items.

Tips:

  • Selecting items from sort levels that contain several values prefills the level fields with *multiple*. To retain the current level codes for the selected items, accept the *multiple* entry.
  • To remove the item assignments when you move or copy them, clear the level field or select *unassigned* from the list.
  • After takeoff, you cannot add items to an assembly using the Move/Copy option. However, you can move items within an assembly, as well as move or copy items to the Unassigned level.
  • You can also use the drag and drop method to move or copy items to another spreadsheet level. For more information, see Dragging items or assemblies to another spreadsheet level in the same estimate.
