Features grid
The Features grid is available in the Add Role window and the Edit Role window in the Select Features for Role box. You select features from this list to assign permissions to each role. Users you assign to a role inherit the permissions granted to that role.
By assigning different feature permissions to each role, you ensure that each type of user has access only to the features they need. For example, if you assign permission for creating estimates but not for changing estimate security to a role, users with that role can create new estimates but they cannot give other users the ability to view or edit the estimate.
Note: Users assigned to the Administrator role have all these permissions automatically. You cannot change permissions for the Administrator role.
For more information about roles, see Understanding roles.
Feature | Notes |
---|---|
Features |
Select this checkbox if you want to select all features automatically. You can clear the checkboxes separately for features for which the role should not have permission. |
Create estimate |
Users with this permission can create estimates. You also need to give a user the Change estimate security permission if you want them to be able to give other users permission to view or edit estimates. |
Management |
Select this checkbox to select both Edit global settings and Run management console automatically. |
Edit global settings |
Users with this permission can edit unit conversions. |
Run management console |
Users with this permission can access the Estimating Management Console. They can start the Estimating Management Console but need additional permissions to access its features. For example, you also need to assign the Create estimate permission for users to create estimates from within the Estimating Management Console. Without this permission, users cannot access the Estimating Management Console. |
Manage custom report |
Users with this permission can create and edit custom estimate reports using the Report Manager in the Estimating Management Console. Without this permission, users cannot access the Report Manager (even with Run management console permissions) to add or edit custom estimate reports. |
Change estimate security |
Users with this permission can use the Estimate Information window in the Sage Estimating software to give other users permissions for viewing or editing an individual estimate. Without this permission, users with the Create estimate permission can create an estimate but cannot give other users permission from within Sage Estimating to view or edit it. |
Edit shared catalog |
Users with this permission can change the organization of estimates in the Estimate catalog, such as adding or removing organizational branches and moving estimates. Without this permission, users with View or Edit permissions to one or more estimates in the catalog can select from the catalog but cannot change the estimate organization. |
Manage shared layouts |
Users with this permission can add, edit, and delete shared spreadsheet layouts and custom report layouts in Sage Estimating. Without this permission, users can use shared spreadsheet layouts and custom report layouts, but they cannot edit or delete them. They also cannot share a spreadsheet layout or custom report layout that they create with other users. Note: Users can create custom reports and spreadsheet layouts for their own personal use with or without this permission. |
Standard databases |
Select this option to select Edit standard database, Edit standard database settings, and View database and allow takeoff automatically. |
Edit standard database |
Users with this permission can create and modify a standard database, such as adding new items and assemblies. Without this permission, users with the View database and allow takeoff permission can take off items and assemblies from a standard database, but they cannot create a new database or change a database. |
Edit standard database settings |
Together with the Edit standard database permission, this permission allows users to change database settings and enter notes for a database in the Estimating Management Console Note: You need both Edit standard database and Edit standard database settings permissions to see the [ ] button on the Standard Database tab. |
View database and allow takeoff |
Users with this permission can view a list of standard databases in Sage Estimating and perform takeoff to an estimate using items and assemblies from a standard database. Without this permission, users cannot perform takeoff to an estimate, nor can they view a list of available standard databases. |
Note: Features in the Feature list may vary from release to release.
