Move/Copy command
Use this command to change the sequence level of one or more items or assemblies in the spreadsheet.
It lets you move or copy items or assemblies from one spreadsheet level to another, and provides an easy way to allocate unassigned items. For example, if the location for an item is unassigned, you can select the item and move it to the appropriate location.
The list below shows which spreadsheet levels allow move and copy operations.
Move/Copy allowed | Copy allowed | Move/Copy not allowed |
---|---|---|
Alternates Job cost phase Location Material class Price code Subcontractor Unassigned Vendor WBS |
Assembly |
Combined Assembly Model Phase/Item Takeoff order |
Tips:
-
The Move/Copy command is also available from the shortcut menu when you right-click a row header.
-
On the Phase/Item, Takeoff, and Assembly tabs, you can copy selected items and assemblies, but you cannot move items to a different phase or takeoff order, or to an existing assembly or model.
-
To include all items within an overline, collapse that level before starting the Move/Copy operation.
-
You cannot add items to an assembly after takeoff. However, you can:
-
Move items in an assembly to another part of the same assembly (for example, from one alternate to another). You cannot move items to a different assembly.
-
Copy the entire assembly, including its items and header information, to a new assembly. (Copying a subset of the items in an assembly disassociates them from the assembly, so they are Unassigned. However, when you select all the items in the assembly, you retain the assembly association.)

Move/Copy operations clear all information from bid grids (including subcontractors) and models.
